Express Sorting Efficiency Leap Relies on RFID Tag Empowerment

With the explosive growth of the e-commerce industry, the global express delivery business volume has increased year by year. As the core node of express circulation, the sorting link can hardly meet the demands of "high efficiency, accuracy and low cost" with the traditional manual sorting mode. The emergence of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags provides a breakthrough solution for automatic express sorting, completely changing the operation logic of the industry.
An RFID tag labels consists of a chip, an antenna and packaging materials. It can transmit data through radio frequency signals without direct contact with the reader. Compared with traditional barcodes, it has the advantages of anti-pollution, reusability for reading and writing, and simultaneous identification of multiple tags. In the express sorting scenario, even if packages are stacked or their surfaces are stained, the reader can still quickly read information such as the recipient's address, weight and order number in the tag within a range of 1-3 meters, and the identification efficiency is 5-8 times that of barcodes.
In practical application, the process of RFID tags runs through the entire chain of express sorting: when the express outlet receives the package, the staff attaches the RFID UHF sticker containing the order information to the surface of the package; after the package is transported to the sorting center, the conveyor belt conveys it to the RFID identification area, and the multi-channel reader completes information collection in an instant and uploads the data to the sorting system; the system automatically assigns slides according to the destination, and the conveyor belt accurately sends the package to the corresponding area through the mechanical guiding device, and the whole process requires no manual intervention. Taking a large domestic express enterprise as an example, after introducing the RFID automatic sorting system, the hourly processing capacity of a single sorting line has increased from 3,000 pieces to 12,000 pieces, the sorting error rate has dropped from 0.5% to less than 0.01%, and the labor cost has been reduced by 60%.
Although the initial purchase cost of RFID tags is higher than that of barcodes, the benefits brought by long-term efficiency improvement make it the first choice for express enterprises. In the future, with the integration of RFID with AI and Internet of Things technologies, tags will also realize functions such as real-time package positioning and temperature and humidity monitoring, further promoting the upgrading of express sorting to "full-process intelligence".
